This position is with the Office of Greenways and Trails (OGT), a program that helped lead Florida to national recognition as Best Trails State in America in 2008. OGT is within the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP), Division of Recreation and Parks which has also earned Florida State Parks three National Gold Medal Awards. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Plan, develop, coordinate and maintain statewide geographic information system (GIS) data and materials relative to the Division’s support and implementation of the Florida Greenways and Trails System (FGTS). Maintain the existing and proposed recreational trails datasets; work with state and local agencies and stakeholders to collect data and bring it into conformance with the standards of these datasets; participate in meetings related to data transfer and update. Plan, research, develop and design statewide maps and other materials to advance the Florida Greenways and Trails System (FGTS). Projects are typically related to the Florida Greenways and Trails System (FGTS) but may also include state parks, state trails, local government projects, partner groups, and other state and federal agencies. Coordinate special GIS and planning projects as needed to support division staff with related initiatives. Includes attending meetings on behalf of the division and coordinating with other agencies on FGTS, GIS and other related issues and tasks. Assist with OGT strategic goals such as creating and editing web content and promoting outdoor recreation on social media and at special events. Carries out special assignments and performs related duties as assigned, especially functions related to bureau logistics. This may include assignments related to planning internal meetings, technological support, and other functions as necessary.
